Aug. 5 Family Fun Night 9-Hole Golf Outing, Excelsior Springs Golf Course, 6 p.m. start. Two-person scramble format; youth play from the red tees. Ages 8-16 years. Cost per team: (2) non-members $40; (2) members $20; (1) non-member & (1) member $30. Fee includes 9 holes of golf and cart, hot dogs and drinks after play and (2) Excelsior Springs Golf Club logo golf balls. Sign-up deadline: Friday, August 1, 2008. Call 816-630-3731 to register.
Aug. 7-10 Annual Sidewalk Sale, downtown shops

Aug. 15-16 7th Annual BBQ Contest and Fly-in on the River, downtown Excelsior Springs. Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday, $5 admission. Food, beer garden, vendors, inflatables, museum tours, fireworks, shopping and more. Apache Helicopter Fly Over and tours beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday events begin 6 a.m. with biscuits and gravy breakfast provided by Ray's Lunch downtown and a pancake breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. at the Airport. Aug. 16 Watkins Mill Warpers will host Iowa's Walnut Hill Bluestockings for a 7 inning 1870's rule Vintage Base Ball game, starting 1 p.m. Immediately following the game, children and all visitors are invited to try their hand at base ball. Aug. 22-30 Excelsior Springs Community Theatre presents "Cookin' With Gus." The play will be presented Aug. 22, 23, 29, and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee on Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. All performances are at Community of Christ Church, Plummer Rd.
